Today, our world looks very dark. We see so much hatred, murder, and things that do not honor God. Yet in our lives, we have the light of Christ, His love flowing brightly through us.
We have hope where those in darkness do not. We have peace where the world has fear. We have strength where the world has no might.
Our world is not much different from Sodom and Gomorrah of old, except that we might have a bit more technology, perversion, and wickedness. Darkness is darkness: no hope, no light, no God.
Good and evil have existed from the beginning of mankind. The temptation to sin against God has always existed, but darkness will never overcome God’s light.
John 1:4–5 reminds us:
“In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
Darkness may touch our lives at times, but it can never overcome us because we belong to God. We may face difficult seasons and experience the effects of living in a fallen world, but we do not walk alone. The light of Christ lives within us, and no darkness can extinguish His light.
Jesus came into this world to set us free. We were created by God and for His glory. As believers, Christ lives in us, and our lives are to reflect His love and light to the world around us.
God has a purpose and a plan for your life. He knew the time you would be born, and He has placed you here for a purpose. You were born for a time such as this! Wherever you are today, trust that God knows your needs and will guide you according to His purpose.
Jesus reminds us in Luke 12:7:
“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear, therefore; ye are of more value than many sparrows.”
Think about that for a moment. God knows you so intimately that He has numbered the very hairs on your head. You are not forgotten or without purpose. Your Heavenly Father knows you, loves you, and cares for you.
We are a light that cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:16 tells us:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
The light of Christ shines through us, not to bring glory to ourselves, but to glorify our Heavenly Father. Good overcomes evil. Doing the right thing when no one is looking, helping someone in need, or simply being a listening friend are all attributes of godly character. We may never know how one small act of kindness or an encouraging word can touch another person’s life and point them toward Jesus.
Living in this world, we face many challenges. War, technological advances we may not fully understand, and the rising cost of living are just a few of the things we must navigate. In the midst of it all, trusting, loving, and obeying God are key to living a life that honors Him.
How will the world hear unless we speak? How will they know unless someone is sent? Knowing who we are and whose we are gives us the godly foundation we need to stand firm in our faith.
Don’t compromise your faith or allow the temptations of sin to harden your heart. Instead, yield your heart to God and allow His light to shine through you.
Take time to enjoy the good things God has given you: His presence, a beautiful sunrise or sunset, your family, and your friends. These are blessings to be treasured and enjoyed.
Romans 12:1 reminds us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. We have been given the privilege of living for Him.
Romans 12:21 tells us:
“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
To live this life well, we must stand firm in Christ, yielded to His purpose. Think of a tree that provides shade for someone weary or bears fruit that nourishes those who are hungry. May our lives be like that tree, offering encouragement, kindness, and the love of Christ to those around us.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:26:
“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”
If our Heavenly Father cares for the birds of the air, how much more can we trust Him to care for us? He knows what we need. We can rest in His faithfulness and continue to walk in obedience, even in the darkest of times.
As we walk through this life, remember that you are never alone. Keep your eyes on Jesus, stay rooted in His Word, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. When the world responds with hatred, respond with love. When the world gives way to fear, stand firm in faith. When someone is struggling, offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement.
We were not placed in this world by accident. God has a purpose for each of us, and every day gives us an opportunity to reflect His goodness to those around us.
Let your light shine! Let it shine in your home, in your workplace, in your friendships, and wherever God leads you. May others see His love in your life and be drawn to the One who gives us hope, peace, and everlasting life.
The world may be dark, but we know the Light of the World. His name is Jesus.
“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
— John 8:12 (KJV)
