When I think about God’s peace, I think about security, a foundation that is immovable. The Bible tells us that God will keep us in perfect peace when our minds are stayed on Him.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” — Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
Many times in life, we get busy. Our minds shift to the next thing we should do. Our thoughts bounce from one thing to another, when in actuality, we just need to sit in God’s presence. We need to turn off the world and focus on the goodness and faithfulness of God.
Let His peace guide you into the next thing you should do.
Oftentimes, we don’t spend enough time seeking God and seeking His goodness. Yet, Jesus tells us in John 7:38, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
Our lives are like sponges. When a sponge is dry, it has little to give. But when it is placed under water, it begins to absorb the water until it becomes full and heavy. Eventually, it reaches a point where it can hold no more. The water must be poured out.
So it is with our lives. When we sit in God’s presence, spend time in His Word, and seek His goodness, we allow Him to fill us until we are overflowing. And what He pours into us is not meant to remain within us. It is meant to flow out into the lives of those around us. We become vessels of His love, His kindness, His faithfulness, and the wonderful message of His salvation.
There are times in life when our hearts are tested and our faith is challenged. Our minds begin to race with questions: What am I going to do? Where can I turn? How will I afford this? How am I going to get through this? When circumstances seem overwhelming, it is easy to become consumed by our problems rather than resting in the peace and faithfulness of God.
These are the moments when we must be careful about the thoughts we allow to take root in our minds. Fear and despair can draw our attention away from the faithfulness of God. The enemy of our souls would have us focus on our circumstances rather than on the One who holds us securely in His hands.
When we are in Christ, we have a foundation that cannot be shaken. This doesn’t mean we won’t have problems. It means that when problems come, we have the assurance of God’s Word that He cares for us and will take care of all that concerns us.
Romans 8:38–39 reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:38–39 (KJV)
What a wonderful assurance! Our circumstances may change, our feelings may fluctuate, and we may not always understand what lies ahead, but God’s love remains steadfast. We can rest in the security of knowing that we belong to Him.
God’s peace is not found in the absence of trouble, but in the presence of the One who holds us securely in His hands. When we quiet our hearts before Him, trust in His Word, and keep our minds stayed on Him, we find a peace the world cannot give and circumstances cannot take away.
So take time today to sit in His presence. Let Him fill you with His goodness, strengthen your faith, and direct your steps. Then allow what He has poured into you to overflow into the lives of those around you. You don’t have to figure everything out or carry every burden on your own. You can rest in the assurance that God is faithful, His love never fails, and His peace will sustain you.
